Every sleeper mechanism is tested

The cheapest part of a used sleeper sectional to break is the mechanism itself. Cushions, fabric, frame — all easy to inspect. The mechanism takes a full open-and-close cycle to verify. We do that on intake, every time, on every sleeper we list. If it’s listed here, it works.

Three sleeper styles to know

Traditional pull-out — old-school, full mattress folds out from under the cushions. Most common. Easiest to repair if the mechanism fails (universal parts).

Chaise sleeper — the chaise side opens flat into a single. Lower-profile, easier to operate solo, but smaller sleeping surface.

Pneumatic / lift-up — Burrow’s modern take. Cushions lift, base unfolds. Smoothest action, but more expensive to repair if it fails.

Buying tips

Always test the mechanism through a full open-and-close cycle before buying.
Sleeper mattresses are usually thinner than standalone — buy a 2" memory-foam topper for any guest who stays more than one night.
Pneumatic mechanisms (Burrow) are smoothest but most expensive to fix. Traditional pull-outs are the most repairable.
Storage compartments under the seats are the underrated feature — keep your bedding in the sectional itself.

On a good brand (Crate & Barrel, Burrow, La-Z-Boy), yes — usually. We test every mechanism on intake; what we list works.

How comfortable are sleeper-sectional mattresses?

Honestly? Thinner than a real mattress. Add a 2" memory-foam topper and your guests will say it slept great.

Can you replace a worn sleeper mattress?

Yes — universal sleeper mattress sizes. Most replacements are $150-300. We can recommend a local source.
